Through Grandma’s Eyes: The Hair Flower

” I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night?

Let me think.

Was I the same when I got up this morning?

I almost think I can remember feeling a little different.

But, if I’m not the same,

the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?’

Ah, that’s the great puzzle.

-Alice in Wonderland-

journal entry:

Have you ever noticed how happy girls get when they start to grow up and how sad everyone else is about it?   Something is lost and something is gained.  I wonder if a girl in the middle of it all wants to go backward or forward, up or down, inside or outside ?  Does she want to play dolls or music ?  Does she want to wear jeans or wear dresses? Does she want to eat at the grown-up table or take her food outside?   Does she want to be left alone or have company?  Does she want it to be quiet or does she want everyone to be singing?  Does she want to wear black or red?  Does she want to get up early and take a walk or sleep until her covers get pulled off ?  Does she want to eat a salad or a pizza . . . an avocado or an apple . . . ice cream or a smoothie?   I think Alice had it right in Wonderland . . . it was just a very confusing mystery to solve. Perhaps it won’t get solved for many, many, many years.  Even Grandmas sometimes wonder who they were or who they have become or how they might turn out !  It isn’t over until it’s over, you know !

“It is better to know

some of the questions

than all of the answers.”

-James Thurber-
